Member biogs and publications
Dr. Pat Brereton is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Communications
and Associate Dean for Research in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
He is author of:
- Poverty and Environment in Films set in Africa, Media Development, 2, 2009.
- Hollywood Utopia: Ecology in Contemporary American Cinema, Intellect Press, 2004
Brian Trench is founder of the MSc. in Science Communication and
Chair of the DCU Research Ethics Committee. He is author or co-author of:
- Handbook of Public Communication of Science and Technology (Routledge, 2008)
- Towards an analytical framework of science communication models, in
Science Communication in Social Contexts (Springer, 2008)
Dr. Pádraig Murphy is a Research Fellow
in the School of Communications, DCU and
member of the CELSIUS research group.
His recent work has focused on deliberative and participatory dialogue models for
biotechnology, nanotechnology, and sustainable technologies.
Pádraig is (co)author of:
- Nanotechnology, environment and society (in press).
Comprehensive Nanoscience and Technology.
- The challenges of upstream communication and public engagement for Irish nanotechnology
in Technoscience in Progress - Managing the Uncertainty of Nanotechnology, 2009.

Dr. Roddy Flynn is a Lecturer in the School of Communications and
Chair of MA in Film & Television. He was previously Chairperson of the
Research Advisory Panel in DCU and has written numerous book sand reports on the
Irish film industry. He is also author of:
